 The Educational Project and the Solar-School in Lingshed
The FRIENDS OF LINGSHED are an Austrian team which has been committed to the region on a voluntary basis since 1994. The goal of the society is to provide sustainable long-time aid by means of educational programmes.
Lingshed is 4000 m above sea level and can only be reached by a several-day trek over high mountain passes (5000 m above sea level). It is one of the most remote parts of Ladakh (northern India).
Together with the local population the FRIENDS OF LINGSHED built a solar-heated school in the year 2000, financed by donations. The construction of the school set the foundation in Lingshed for the development of a sizeable educational centre.
The FRIENDS OF LINGSHED finance different educational projects. Donations are used for sponsorship for school children and students, for winter time education (it is a kind of “extra tuition” during school holidays between december and february in Lingshed and the surrounding villages), for environmental education and for school books and educational materials suitable for children.
